LUVOCOM 3F PAHT® 9825 NT is an unreinforced, high-temperature polyamide material, designed for good printability and no warping. It has excellent tensile and impact strength and allows continues use up to 100 °C while retaining 50% of its mechanical properties. Its water uptake takes about 4 times longer to reach the saturation point compared to a standard PA 6. Also its saturation point is 5 times lower. The material comes in natural (white) color.

The combination of LUVOCOM® 3F Filament PAHT® 9825 NT and Ultimaker S5 Pro Bundle have been certified by TÜV SÜD for its reproducible AM build process. This comprises not only material properties – including the dimensional tolerances on printed components using printing parameters available on CURA Marketplace. But also, its emissions were measured during the printing process, ensuring its safety. This is the world’s first “Reproducible AM Build Process” certified by TÜV SÜD in the field of fused filament fabrication (FFF), giving the users of the technology an extra degree of confidence to achieve their goals.

Ultimaker S5 Pro-Bundle is capable to produce parts 330 x 270 x 300 mm in size. However, typical parts up 200mm have been able to meet the certification results. Although achievable, larger parts can suffer from distortion or inconsistencies originating from longer print time and different thermal conditions through all the part volume. Within this part size window of printability, five major areas within the product life cycle have been identified for use of LEHVOSS LUVOCOM 3F PAHT NT Filament.

Typical applications

1. Functional Prototyping

Ideal to produce Polyamide-based parts that need to undergo the functional prototyping (geometrical and engineering) step of validation. In this step, 10-30 units/model are required for testing in real working conditions.

2. Production ramp up

TÜV SÜD certification on reproducible AM Build Process opens up to the use of PAHT LEHVOSS LUVOCOM 3F PAHT NT Filament also in production ramp up stage of product development. Typical volumes of 20-100 parts/model are used direct in assembled EPTs and zero series prior to commercialization.

3. Production tools

One-off precision components like assembly tools and fixtures with high dimensional stability requirements.

4. Low Volume/ Specialized products & auxiliary spare parts

Highest lead time reduction and cost savings can be achieved for production of small batches of parts with the following features

  • 10-100 units/model/year
  • Claimed tolerances range ±0.25 mm
  • maximum 15-20 cm in size
  • Leadtime longer than 1 week
  • Obsolete parts

TÜV SÜD certification

The combination of LUVOCOM® 3F Filament PAHT® 9825 NT and Ultimaker S5 Pro Bundle have been certified by TÜV SÜD with certification No. Z2 107566 0001 Rev. 00 (document provided at the bottom of this article).

Below follows an explanation of the different elements that have been validated by TÜV SÜD.

A copy of the certificate as PDF can be downloaded here

1. Filament Production Monitored

The production facility for filament and machine production was inspected with regards to quality assurance to assure reproducibility

2. Steady geometrical accuracy

Geometrical accuracy was tested with statistical reliability according to VDI 3405 Page 7 and resemble the specifications in the filament technical data sheet. A geometrical accuracy within ± 0.28mm variation in XY over a range of 25-150 mm has been certified.

3. Consistent and reliable material

Differential Scanning (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analyses (TGA) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) were performed on used and new filament. All requirements on the material composites are according to specifications. (Tg, Tc, Tm, Td)

4. Steady tensile strength

Tensile strength was tested with statistical reliability according to ISO 527 and resemble the specification in the filament data sheet.

5. Emissions tested

Particle and chemical emissions of the filament-machine combination were tested according to UL 2904. According to UL 2905 results, under standard office circumstances this material may be used with an Ultimaker S5 Pro Bundle without any additional local exhaust ventilation measures.
